6 Must-Dos to Protect Your House With the Coming El Nino

Experts believe that this winter will see significant precipitation due to the formation of El Nino in the Pacific Ocean.

Bill Patzert, a climatologist for NASA, in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times stated, “There’s no longer a possibility that El Nino wimps out at this point. It’s too big to fail,” He continued, “This could be one of the types of winters like in 1997-98.”

The 1997-1998 winter season was the second wettest season in over a century with massive flooding in California and elsewhere. Though California could certainly use the much needed rain but homeowners should take certain precautions to better protect their property.

1= Check out the Roof

Have your roof inspected for any missing parts or cracks, if any then you surely want a professional to do the needed repairs and seal any cracks.

2= Check out the Rain Gutters

Now it’s a good time to have the gutters checked and clear it up from any leaves or debris so once the rain starts, there would not be any water damage.

3= Check out the Furnace

You don’t want to be trapped in the house because of the storm and have the furnace breakdown with no heat. Have the filter changed and make  sure the furnace is in good condition.

4= Prepare for Power Outage

One thing is guaranteed and that is once the storm hits, there will be power outage in some areas, so prepare for it. Have several flashlights, new batteries and candles. Though power outage is never fun, having a candlelight dinner could be very romantic!

5= Check out the Food Supply

It will only be prudent to have a good supply of bottled water and canned or dry food just in case if you need to hunker down for a few days.

6= Get Your Contractor’s List in Order

It would be wise to go through your phone book and prepare a contractor’s list just in case should you need the service of a professional for any possible repairs.

Most important though is to enjoy life while taking appropriate precaution for any condition.
